Making decisions ahead of time may, on the surface, seem like a constraining habit. Like your freedom to choose in the moment would be stripped away. However, it’s been my experience that the opposite is actually true.
There is a very real and very prevalent source of overwhelm and stress: Decision fatigue. We literally make hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of decisions every single day. But when I found the relief of utilizing this strategy of making decisions ahead of time – and honoring them – it has helped me alleviate some of my decision fatigue. Of course, there are some decisions that you simply can’t, and others you shouldn’t, make in advance but there are many you can. Let’s talk about how and why to employ this powerful stress reducer.
“When we make decisions ahead of time… we’re not focused on seeking pleasure or avoiding pain or conserving energy. We aren’t reactive… We’re intentional.” – Dr. Sara Dill
